St. Mychal Judge,OFM

“When I don’t know what’s next, I get down on my knees and pray. Lord take me, mold me, fashion me, show me what you want, then I watch and listen and it will come.” St. Mychal Judge

No one knows when God will call us home. Certainly on the morning of September 11th none of us expected the horrific tragedy that occurred . A chaplain to the New York City Fire Department, Fr. Mychal Judge, OFM, was a dedicated and compassionate individual who, in addition to his many roles, was a recovering alcoholic. He was a valued member of the Holy Name Province, where he not only provided spiritual guidance but also actively worked with homeless individuals and those suffering from AIDS. Deeply committed to his mission, he devoted a significant amount of his time and energy to supporting and mentoring recovering addicts, helping them find hope and healing in their lives. he often prayed,

“Lord, take me where you want me to go; let me meet who you want me to meet; tell me what you want me to say; and keep me out of your way.”

The Morning of September, God did just that. After anointing a courageous firefighter who was preparing to face the dangers of the blaze, Father Mychal was tragically struck by falling debris and lost his life.I will always remember the image of Fr. Mychal's body being carried away by firefighters.

What can we learn from this hero/ saint? Putting our trust in the Lord daily is essential for our spiritual well-being. By allowing various things and tasks to take over our focus and priorities, we often inadvertently create obstacles that can get in the way of experiencing the Lord's guidance and presence in our lives. Step aside and allow Him to work, trusting completely that you are precisely where you need to be and with whom He wants you to be. Come Holy Spirit be with me here and now.
