Let Us Begin Again
“Let us begin again, brothers, for up until now, we have done little or nothing.” This heartfelt sentiment reflects a profound humility, accompanied by an unyielding spirit of renewal and hope. Saint Bonaventure notes that near the end of his life, Saint Francis of Assisi frequently encouraged his fellow friars with words of wisdom that inspired them to embrace new beginnings. His message served as a gentle reminder of the importance of perseverance and the potential for growth in their spiritual journeys.
The Church gives us Lent as a time to draw closer to the Lord, to begin again. Lent comes from the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, focusing on prayer and reflection. It possesses the remarkable and transformative power to radically reshape our priorities and focus in life, encouraging not only reflection but also renewal. It is not merely about the act of abstaining from certain habits or items that may distract us, but rather engaging in the practice and with the sincere intention of nurturing spiritual growth and fostering a deeper understanding of one's faith journey. It serves as a call, a gentle whisper, and an actionable step towards greater awareness.
We are encouraged to seek true change in our lives by following Christ with purpose. For me, Lent is a time to look inward and strengthen my faith and spiritual journey. It is a meaningful opportunity for personal reflection and spiritual growth during this sacred and holy season.
As we continue our enriching Journey together, I want to let you know that I will be sending out weekly newsletters during the season of Lent (Cuaresma), just as I did during Advent. Each weekly newsletter I will share selections from three thoughtfully chosen books that will guide us on our journey. These include Wilderness Within, authored by Sr. Josephine Garrett (Ave Maria Press, 2025), A Lenten Journey with Mother Mary by Fr. Edward Looney (Sophia Institute Press), and Lent with St. Francis: Daily Reflections by Diane M. Houdek (Franciscan Media). It is my sincere hope that during this Lenten season, you will discover that these interactive newsletters—especially if you take a moment to click on the labeled links provided within—can help enrich your spiritual journey.
Blessed Lent!
Lenten Prayer
Lord, we come before you in darkness and look for your dawn. We listen for Your still, small voice in the midst of the storm. Help us hear Your words and speak them to others. Help us change the ways we live, that we may shine a light that leads the world to You. As You brought new life to the world, bring new life to us today, that we may share it abundantly with others. United in hope, bound by our love for each other and the home we share, we pray this in your name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Laudato Si
Keep at it!
Keep praying.
Love the Lord.
Peace and Grace.
